What We Do

The Landscapes By Design Group :

Our goal is to create paintings of nature that reflect the individuality of our clients and the physical nature of the site. Our pencils, shovels, and hands are the brushes upon this canvas. Plants, stones, pergolas, and ponds are our palette of paints. Our gardens must reflect ease of maintenance, lushness of color and texture, and functionality that our contemporary lifestyles demand. We draw inspiration from the history of art and garden design.

I am a NYBG Certified Landscape Designer and former NY Botanical Garden Instructor. My design services encompass entire landscapes with stonework, water features, and gardens to small intimate plantings, and solving issues like excess storm water, old out of control gardens and intimate fire pits and seating walls. I am a past President of the Bergen Master Gardener Assoc. I lecture around the area on landscape design, outdoor construction, and environmental issues. I have a strong commitment to the environment and try to build gardens that are sustainable and welcoming to dwindling wild bird and native plant species. Of late I have been pioneering the replacement of lawn and turf with meadow like environments of native, deer proof and easy care plantings. My aim is to create “Environmentally Friendly Landscapes.” I own the design and management branch of our little group, L.B.D. - Arnie Friedman, LLC.

Abraham, known to our clients as Brian, has worked side by side with Arnie for 15 years. He is the meticulous builder of stone walls and patios. Abraham adheres to the latest and best horticultural practices. He is the father of three children and is a great family man. He owns and operates the installation arm of our group L.B.D. - Abraham Espindola Hernandez Co.

We had a wild, wooded driveway embankment cleaned out, landscaped and planted. They did a wonderful job of getting rid of the brush and vines, then planted a wonderful garden that fits in with the natural backyard we have. It has drainage beds made from the stone from the hill and beautiful plantings on the hill that will, with time, fill in and help control the erosion issues we have. We are thrilled with the outcome.

We hired Arnie over two years ago based on the quality of his work and professionalism. We had reviewed his work at other client's homes. The work was outstanding. We were not disappointed. When people pass by they to complement the uniqueness of the landscaping and how much they like the way everything looks. Over the course of two years, Arnie and his incredibly hard working crew installed a paver driveway, walk, rear paver circle and barbecue area. They installed bluestone on our front steps and brownstone our rear steps and patio. They also created unique plantings in the front and rear of our property. These plantings incorporate different colors and textures. The color scheme was selected after we visited a nursery to express our plant preferences. The final selection was Arnie's. It was a pleasure to be surprised by his selection and placement within the landscape. The result is lovely.
